4-Dimethyl-amino-benzaldehyde

Reagent for detecting bacterial indole in the identification of indole-positive and indole-negative microorganisms.
Cover the culture 12-24 hours at 37°C with 1 ml approx. of Kovacs reagent. In the presence of free indole, a cherry-red colour will develop in the reagent's layer after a few minutes.
